"Florida" - Album Cover

So I guess it’s no secret and you probably already know all about it, but my new album is coming out in May. May 12th to be precise. I was living in Florida for a few months last year and wrote a bunch of songs and started recording them in my walk in closet that I had turned into a small recording studio. One of the very first weeks of my stay it rained non stop for a whole week. I was trapped inside with a monsoon outside and had nothing better to do than to play the guitar. So I wrote what later became the title track of the new album “Florida”.

The cover art is inspired by the eerieness of the Florida swamps with its lurking alligators. I especially loved the Spanish moss that grew on the trees everywhere, it made me think of scary movies, voodoo and black magic. I was also fascinated by the alligators and took a trip to Gator Land, where I took the picture of the albino alligator. Talented photographer Camilla Svensk later took the pic of me in her studio and I merged them together. I’m sorry to say I’m not cool enough to hold a real alligator in a leash like that.

You will soon be able to pre-order the album and there will also be a special edition box for those of you who want that little extra.

We are currently redesigning the website to fit the new “Florida”-theme so please don’t be annoyed if it’s a little bit messy for a while.

Thanks y’all for coming to my gigs!

Me and The Band in Texas

We had a great time in Texas and played 6 gigs at SXSW this year. I just want to say thanks to all of you who showed up and supported me. I hope to be able to come back and play in Austin again sometime.
Here’s a couple of shout-outs we got after our SXSW performances:

“her poignant songs had the audience enraptured”
aurgasmsxsw.us

“After listening to a few of her silky smooth tunes I was hooked.”
San Diego: dialed in

“Crafting delicate moments of peace on her acoustic guitar Sofia is independent in every sense of the word”
spinner.com

“this Swedish singer/songwriter packs enough serious doses of emotion and catchy melodies to make put her on the industry buzz list in a big way and make her a trailblazer.”

Last days

It’s the last day of our tour. To be honest it was probably the last day Saturday as we did our last gig then. We had a great time playing for a wonderful crowd at the Wyndham Hotel. It feels a little sad to go home, but I’m also longing so much for my husband that I can’t wait to get on the plane.

My favorite gigs have been The Mint, The Swedish Showcase and probably our last gig at the Wyndham. But few memories from this tour will be stronger than meeting Suzanne Vega in person. That was way cool!

Here’s som final pics from the tour. Enjoy and I’ll see you next time!

Busy as bees at Sxsw 2010

We’re having an awesome time at SXSW. The sun is shining and we’re dead tired from playing, partying and sleeping to little.

Last night we did our first official showcase at St Davids Hustoric Sanctuary, right before Suzanne Vega. It was a really cool venue but what’s up with all the church gigs on this tour? Is someone trying to tell me I should start playing Christian music? icon wink Busy as bees at Sxsw 2010

I actually got to hang out a little with Suzanne Vega and her band after her great gig, and managed to get a pic too.

Joakim did his yearly SXSW dance at the artist lounge after dark and everyone was happy. (video)

Today we’re really tired after getting up early to do a showcase at noon. It might not sound early but with the traffic which is just crazy we had to get going at 9 from the hotel this morning. The gig was great though. It was hosted by Mike Galaxy at Guero’s Taco Bar, outside in the sun. Next to the venue there was a really cool store with cowboy boots. I especially loved the “Gringo” ones but I’m a poor musician and can’t afford $500 boots:-(

Right now we’re curled up in the artist lounge at ACC waiting for our next gig on Little fields roof top at 6th and Brazos where we’re playing at 7.30.

AOL interview with Sofia Talvik

AOL and Spinner.com covers SXSW this year and did an interview with me.

SXSW might be all about the beer, BBQ and bands but things are much more gentle in the world of Sofia Talvik. Crafting delicate moments of peace on her acoustic guitar Sofia is independent in every sense of the word, releasing all her material through the label she owns with her husband (also her manager). Having released two albums so far and worked with former Suede man turned producer Bernard Butler, Sofia will release her third album ‘Florida’ in May. Spinner caught up with her ahead of her trip to Austin for SXSW.

I’m doing a bunch of gigs at SXSW don’t miss out, I’ll play

a lot of the new songs from my upcoming album ‘Florida

No country for old men

We’re on the road. Stuck in a too small pick up truck. The only upside is the Jack Daniels for the guys and the scenery for me. Tonight we’re staying at a really lousy motel. Motel 6 would look like the Hilton compared to this icon wink No country for old men . Well at least I have wifi so I can do my blogs, check my emails and all that. We’ve been joking about staying at a motel like the ones in “No country for old men” and now we are. We walked to a Mexican restaurant across the street and while we were in there the guys spotted a man that looked EXACTLY like the guy in “No country for old men”. I tried to take a picture of him with my iPhone, it’s not great but you’ll see.

I’m really looking forward to coming to Austin so we can decide our own pace and our own stuff and have some fun and play some music.
